Light railways were widely used during the first decades of industrialization: From the 19th century onward, they did a great job in exploiting natural ressources like coal, ore, stones or other heavy goods. Large light railway infrastructures were also built for transporting trees out of forest areas or for harvesting purposes on greater farmlands. These railways were sometimes in use until the 1970ies, most of them having been constructed in 600 mm gauge.

Mine railway nets had important functions underground: There are still many of them in actual use in coal mines or ore mines. Special vehicles are neccessary under the earth's surface because of the very limited space down there. In our museum, we are proud to present a large variety of mine locomotives and their matching cars and lorries.
